The Akashic Records

What are the Akashic Records? They sound mystical and almost imaginary, and if you google the name, not much information comes up. But in reality, they have been part of past cultures and religions throughout time. The Akashic Records are, in essence, an energetic imprint of every thought, emotion, action, and experience that has ever occurred in time and space. In other words, an etheric compilation of information of your soul. Think of them as a book that contains the entire history of your soul; every aspect of who you are now, all of your experiences and all your future potential. Kind of like “universal DNA”. Each individual’s book is so vast that it could never exist physically, and just like we have law and medical libraries, our records are energetically stored in The Hall (or Library) of the Akashic Records.

There are many common questions when it comes to The Akashic Records; what is the meaning of Akashic, where do they come from, what can we learn from them and how do we access them?

Let’s first learn about the meaning of the word Akashic. Akasha is a Sanskrit word which means “primary substance” which is the energy that contains the information in the Akashic Records, and the energy that makes up everything in the universe. Every vibration that occurs in the universe through our words, thoughts, and actions leaves a permanent imprint on the Akasha, leaving an energetic recording of every soul. If we dissect the origin of the word Akashic even further, we see if comes from two ancient Tibetan or Northern Indian words: “Aka” means space, storage place, or repository, and “Sa” means sky, hidden, or secret, which literally translates to “an unseen space or storage place”.

With respect to the history of The Akashic Records, the concept dates back thousands of years and has been referred to in many cultures, sacred texts, and religions throughout history, such as Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism. It is most notable though in Christianity, where it is often referred to as “The Book” or “The Book of Life” in the Bible - “then I said, "Behold, Here I am, coming to do Your will, O God . . to fulfill what is written of me in the volume of The Book." Hebrews 10:7; “the book in which men's actions, good and bad, are recorded, The Book of Life.”  Revelation 20:12.

Interestingly enough, the term Akashic Records was only coined by philosopher Rudolf Steiner in the late 19th century, who claimed he had the ability to access a spiritual world and believed anyone could learn to access it.

But what good are The Records to us now? Well, since they contain every thought, emotion, action and experience that has ever happened to us in all our lifetimes, they can help us discover more about the nature of our soul and give us valuable input for this lifetime. Most importantly, they give us insight into past negative choices that can help us clear or unblock anything that might be keeping us from reaching our true selves.

So now that we know all about The Records, how do we access them? You might not be aware but every time you meditate, pray or have intuitive feelings and insight, you are accessing your Akashic Records. Many people intentionally open themselves to The Records via sacred spoken prayer, breathing techniques or through readings and consultations with teachers in the field. Spiritual beings called Guides, Keepers or Guardians watch over The Records and hold strong energetic protection over them, and are there to guide us and help us connect to our own Records when we choose to do so.
